Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
