The Reform UK leader Claims Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike shortly after a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by telling children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his perspective on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators soon after securing a victory,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
Reform, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments indicated the group would reform the educational framework. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – absolutely herculean. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I mean this. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to your online courses. I pledge this tonight and I will follow through.”
The institution, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. It offers these beautiful courses for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
