The domestic football league derby involving Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv was abandoned before the start on Sunday, due to what police labeled as "public disorder and serious disturbances".
"Numerous of smoke bombs and fireworks were launched," law enforcement posted on online platforms, noting "this cannot be considered a sporting event, it represents unrest and significant aggression".
Twelve people and three police personnel were harmed, authorities reported, while several individuals were detained and 16 held for interrogation.
The disturbances happen just a short time after officials in the United Kingdom stated that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans ought to be banned to go to the Europa League match at Aston Villa in Britain in November because of security issues.
Hapoel Tel Aviv condemned the game abandonment, claiming law enforcement of "gearing up for a war, rather than a game", particularly during discussions in the lead-up to the eagerly-awaited match.
"The shocking situations around the stadium and due to the irresponsible and outrageous ruling not to hold the match only prove that the Israel Police has assumed command over the sport," the team stated officially.
The other team has declined to speak, merely stating the game was called off.
The judgment by Birmingham's Safety Advisory Group to exclude club followers from the Aston Villa match on 6 November has triggered extensive disapproval.
The government officials has since said it is working to overturn the ban and investigating what extra measures might be needed to guarantee the fixture can be hosted safely.
The English club told their security personnel that they were not required to attend at the game, explaining they understood that some "could be worried".
On Thursday, local authorities said it endorsed the restriction and classified the game as "potentially dangerous" due to intelligence and earlier occurrences.
That included "serious fights and discrimination incidents" involving Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv fans ahead of a game in the Netherlands in November 2024, when more than 60 people were arrested.
There have been rallies at several athletic competitions concerning the war in Gaza, such as when Israel faced the Scandinavian team and Italy in recent international matches.
