Spurs Manager Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Raise Tension on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "they cannot be real Tottenham fans" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs conceded a pair of goals in the first initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th Premier League home defeat of 2025.
However the primary talking point was Fulham's second score when Vicario gave away the ball far beyond his box.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a long ball and took the ball near the touchline.
However, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italy international spun and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by King.
King passed the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 yards.
Moments later when the ball came to Vicario once more, a number of Spurs fans booed him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions really irritated the manager.
"I heard some of our supporters apparently jeered the situation and jeered following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented about the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"[They] can't be true Spurs supporters that do that. Alright jeering after the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are behind each other moving ahead."
Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute advantage prior to Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second-half performance.
Former Premier League keeper Hart remarked that the second score was "totally preventable".
"I do understand the supporters' disappointment," Hart added. "I am aware the role the keeper is playing. He's a excellent squad member, he is a real figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It's In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Match
Italian national team the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.
He stated after the match that he had to take the criticism.
"The second goal was a error of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a bad way. It was an more difficult mountain to climb."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "The team can't be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.
"It's on us to remain increasingly calm, to concentrate on our own performance. We are missing in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it is hard to take."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an simple goal for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second longest-range top division score of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly too came on the same day.
The goalscorer said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and the midfielder striking – which was 5 moments following the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," he said.
"I was surprised not one of the back four went back to the line. When not one of them defended the goal, my eyes sparked somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a little extra time. Then it was solely about trying to make the right contact and get it towards goal. I felt a good feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Work Against You'
Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager
While the keeper's error dominated headlines, this was an all-round bad performance for Tottenham to continue their home woes.
This was their tenth home loss of the year in the Premier League, a shared club statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
The side still have home games against Frank's former club Brentford and title holders Liverpool to come before the end of the season.
Only one of those victories have occurred after the manager took over from his predecessor in the off-season.
"If you are down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said the boss.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects seems to work against you too – the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.
"This result puts us in a position where we have suffered an additional game. Each fixture has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We just need to continue striving. The later period was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."
Spurs have lost 4 straight at home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are averaging 9.5 attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest rates on record in a single campaign (dating back to 2003-04).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the stick," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a prestigious role at a major football club with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
