Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs About Coach Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just seven months following instigating insulting taunts targeting their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year time at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent in August.

One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds included starting offensive songs about Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Now, the one-cap England player will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to rescue his beloved club out of the drop zone.

Past Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder

The pair had history prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

Everything appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford hoping to revive his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
