Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.
PSG has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.
The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.
The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.
Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.
The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
