Lindsey Vonn underwent a surgical implant installed in her right knee throughout her break from competitive skiing.

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following earning a top-three finish for the fourth time in five World Cup competitions.

The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Competing at the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have the right line on the initial jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm happy with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She boasts an Olympic gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the 2026 Games.

"At the Olympics, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup campaign includes a total of nine races taking place before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
