Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
