The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will listen to a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like award-winning actors.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for community pantries.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
