US air traffic controllers are more and more seeking additional employment and reporting ill, as they continue to work unpaid amid the federal closure, the transportation secretary has stated.

"These professionals are wearing thin," the official informed Fox News on the weekend, as certain aircraft were grounded on the California shoreline due to personnel deficits.

Following the government shut down on 1 October, flight controllers, who are deemed essential workers, were instructed to continue performing their jobs uncompensated.

But some have been absent, leading airports to stop or slow their plane traffic, which has added to delays due to climate and additional factors.

Over 3,000 American flights were delayed on Sunday, and the secretary stated he expects the circumstances to grow worse.

"I am seeing the pressure," Duffy said in an interview on a weekend program, noting that he had spoken to multiple professionals to hear their worries firsthand.

"They're taking second jobs, they're out there searching, 'Should I drive Uber, am I able to secure another source of income to cover expenses?'" he added.

Duffy added that on the previous day 22 alerts at airfields said flights would be held up due to a lack of workers - among the peak after the shutdown began.

The American federal closure reached its twenty-sixth day on the weekend, rendering it the second most extended halt in history.

He has consistently cautioned that aviation regulators would reduce the quantity of planes in the sky if there is a shortage of security staff.

In his conversation, he declined to respond straightforwardly when questioned if it was safe to travel by air in the US, and instead made a direct appeal to the professionals.

"I need my controllers focused on the flight paths, not on the finances at their households," Duffy said.

On that day, certain flights were grounded at Los Angeles International Airport due to staffing shortages, leading to interruption at the fifth most active airport in the nation and among the most crowded in the globe, as well as additional travel extending upward to the metropolis of Oakland, California.

The FAA alert was issued at 8:45 AM local time on Sunday. Many flights were operating normally by midday.

Travel at Newark Liberty International Airport, though, were postponed an average of over an hour due to staffing shortages, and the authority indicated DFW, the second-busiest airfield in the US, could encounter problems from reduced staff later in the day.

The FAA warned travelers in the state to check with airlines about updated departure times.

The issue precedes Game 3 of the championship, which is due to be played in LA on Monday evening, and approximately four weeks before the Thanksgiving holiday, one of the busiest times to travel by air in the US.

Pressure on US air travel helped end a federal closure in two thousand nineteen. At the time, the halt had reached its fifth week and disrupted airline operations, including aviator instruction.

It prompted several air traffic controllers to remain absent on the same day on January 25, 2019, temporarily stopping travel at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

That same day, the former president, who at the time was in his first term as leader, consented to approve a temporary funding measure, effectively ending the federal closure after thirty-five days.
