Daughter of Former South African President Jacob G Zuma Denies Terrorism Allegations as Trial Commences
The offspring of former South African President Jacob Zuma has denied all charges to terror accusations at the beginning of her court case in the coastal city of Durban city.
Zuma-Sambudla, forty-three, is being charged over statements she made on online platforms several years back during violent unrest in South Africa that occurred subsequent to the arrest of her dad.
A period of disorder in several parts of the country in July 2021, including looting and intentional burning, caused at least three hundred deceased and caused damage worth an projected $2.8 billion (£2.2bn).
The defendant has been alleged of fuelling this turmoil and confronts allegations of encouragement to commit terror-related activities and public violence.
Context of the Case
The demonstrations were concentrated in the provinces of Gauteng region and KwaZulu-Natal province and were triggered by the former president's arrest for defying a judicial ruling to appear as a witness at an investigation into accusations of impropriety while he was holding office.
The defendant has always refuted the allegations against her, with her legal representative earlier calling the prosecution's evidence as insufficient.
She has also consistently claimed the allegations against her were an bid to settle political grievances with her parent after he founded his own political organization and campaigned against the ANC.

This was echoed by the foundation, which stated the legal matter was an "power abuse" and a "organized effort" of "political and kinship targeting" against the former president and his kin.
A small number of followers from her political organization, the political party, appeared outside the KwaZulu-Natal high court, while her dad and other party leaders were present at the hearings inside.
The defense has maintained that the testimony presented by government lawyers is insufficient and does not have concrete proof for a guilty verdict.
