This winter recruitment period is always a period of feverish speculation and possible major deals. Several notable stars are being connected to transfers away from their current teams. Here is a look at some of the top names who could be changing clubs this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to reach the AFCON, this has left the forward in contention, it appears a major move is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker possesses a contract with a sizeable buy-out clause applicable for a brief window in early January. Latest developments suggest the Premier League champions look to have won the race for his signature. Former suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to other options, leaving teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute bid.

M. Guéhi

The English defender has continued to excel for Palace this season a summer move to Liverpool collapsing. As his deal due to expire in the close season, this represents the club's final chance to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, including City and multiple European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to hold an interest. Yet, a winter departure is considered difficult, particularly given the manager's reliance on the player.

B. Johnson

The Wales winger has had first-team minutes hard to come by at Spurs this term. Although finishing as the club's top scorer last season, Johnson has started only a small number of league matches. Reports suggest the London club is willing to consider a sale for the correct price, believed to be in the around forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an inquiry.

R. Neves

The Portugal playmaker might be poised for a return to the Premier League following a period in Saudi Arabia. Still just twenty-eight, and with his contract ending in the summer, he represents a potential opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are rumours from Spanish media that he would be willing to accept a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran Germany shot-stopper finds himself as third-choice at Barça under the manager Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had surgery, a winter departure seems increasingly likely. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific England striker has continued scoring regularly in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his dwindling hopes of making the England squad. But, securing a deal presents major challenges. Al-Ahli do not wish to sell him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages make any agreement complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all linked as admirers.

Juventus are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but are in a race to retain one of Europe's brightest young talents.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has earned comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. This 19-year-old is heavily tipped to make a big-money move this month. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at approximately £22 million.
