Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
