A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the character of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
